Has unstoppable Najib met immutable UMNO?

Why Nations Fail’ that institutions, both political and economic, are crucial to prosperity. Without a strong and independent judiciary,an effective and efficient bureaucracy, a predictive policyframework and independent and robust regulatory mechanisms, can we have sustained high growth and prosperity? And can these institutions be robust and effective if they are routinely hijacked by money and muscle? Najib should lead, not be thinking of his own position.singing a narrow racial and bigoted tune when he speaks to Umno. Playing the race and religion narratives are typical agenda of the allegedly corrupt Umno-BN government that put self-survival and grip of hegemonic power above the interest of our beloved multi-racial and democratic nation. It’s pathetic. Even Donald Trump did much better after he was declared the winner in the November 2016 presidential race. His first statement was, “An America for all Americans.”Najib, your statement only conveys one fact, and only one fact - there is no future for a small nation of some 30 million people living in a racially and religiously-divided country called Malaysia.there is no dilemma. Speak as a leader. What is good for ‘Malays, Muslims and bumiputera’ must be good for all Malaysians. That is the ultimate hallmark of a true leader. With that, how can any leader go down to the grassroots with any meaning, while allegedly having to lie and avoid difficult questions?

Dr Mahathir Mohamad's most memorable quote, "Melayu mudah lupa" (Malays forget easily), was once again used against him.

This time, it was none other than Umno president Najib Abdul Razak himself who fired the salvo against the former premier.

In his speech at the Umno annual general assembly, Najib, who is also prime minister, said various leaders, ministers and statesmen had betrayed the oath taken in the name of Allah.

Citing several Islamic scholars, he said this was a cardinal sin and proved the hypocritical attitude of certain individuals.

"... One person himself said Malays forget easily.

"I wish to ask now - who is that Malay who forgets easily? Definitely not us, because true Umno Malays are loyal and do not betray the party," he stressed.

At this juncture, the large screen showing the Umno president delivering his speech shifted to a wide angle shot, revealing a screen above Najib which displayed the images of Mahathir, his son Mukhriz and former deputy prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin clad in Bersih t-shirts.

Earlier in his speech, Najib said he deliberated on the approach that should be adopted for his speech, in light of the various attacks from the other side.

"After meeting with many quarters in the process to prepare this speech, I received numerous views. Among them, that I should no longer be gentlemanly.

"Instead, I should be harsher and respond to all the scorn and obscenities from all quarters, including Mahathir and his accomplices, with even more harsher words," he added.

However, Najib said it was better for him to follow the way of Prophet Muhammad, which is to be cordial in one's approach, even to foes.

Once again, the prime minister recalled his loyalty to Mahathir during the divisive Umno elections in 1987.

Although being close to Umno veteran Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, Najib said he held on to the principle of loyalty to the president by siding with Mahathir.

The prime minister said despite Umno members and him remaining loyal to Mahathir during his tenure in office, the latter had now turned his back on them.

"I am personally very disappointed and I am sure that you, too, share the same disappointment over what that has happened.

"Mahathir who was once a celebrated statesman has turned his back against the party he led for decades.

"It's not unreasonable to state that he is now even in cahoots with DAP, Bersih, Parti Amanah Negara, PKR and worse, with the country's enemies like (George) Soros who was once hated and we were asked to hate him for being responsible for the fall of the ringgit," he added.

Citing the loyalty accorded to Mahathir's successor Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, Najib said it was not only for Abdullah but for the institutions he held as Umno president and prime minister as well.

"As such, loyalty given to the institutions I am holding now is because of the responsibility held by party members as well as the people of Malaysia.

"So total loyalty must be received by anyone who takes over the posts of (party) president and prime minister," he added.

Najib also touched on how history revealed that Malays and Muslims have been paralysed due to enmity and betrayal.

"As such, we should not be used by certain quarters lest we will lose the things which are important to us.

"So I urge that we unite. In the name of Malay unity, we should forget our differences and return to the right path," he said.

The prime minister also expressed confidence that both the Pagoh and Semporna Umno divisions would remain loyal to the party.

The divisions’ former leaders Muhyiddin and Shafie Apdal have since formed their own parties after leaving Umno.

at to the bumiputera and Islam.

In his speech at the Umno annual general assembly today, Najib said Islam would surely be "belittled" if DAP comes to power.

"We (Umno) will not let that happen. As our forefathers vowed, over my dead body and over the bodies of all Malays.

"We will rise and go all out to defend (Islam)!" Najib declared.

So, is there a disconnect between the ‘nation’ and the ‘national capital’? Real and political geographies have often coincided through history. It’s not easy to disrupt these bonds, particularly the bond people have with their capital. Be it an empire from a different era or the modern state, the capital symbolises the best of a nation, a source of pride to the farthest end of a country’s geographical expanse, a place with a story that binds people, the seat of power and justice.Over the years, these capitals have turned global cities. They are connected with cities in other countries as

This is one very divisive man. He is out to destroy the nation isn't he?according to published reports did this. In the wee hours before dawn he had to get up and made a call to Donald Trump for only God knows what. And earlier he went to Beijing PRC, hat on one hand and a bowl on the other hand, seeking investment ventureNow he declared that DAP is the enemy of Malay and Islam. Is he really that naive to think that PRC Chinese are that stupid not to know what game he is up to? When a person borrows money from the Along, he or she must be prepared for the consequences in the very likely event of a default in repayment of a loan.
Newly baptised as grand Communist Leader in Malaysia Prime Minister’s grand Communist Leader, Dogged by a Billion-Dollar Scandal, Proves Untouchable.
Mahathir's willingness to work with DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang and Najib reached out to Communists  his 1MDB expediency, the quality of being convenient and practical despite possibly being improper or immoral; Another Malaysian despot clings to power ... We have politically illiterate leaders who seem not to “read” the writing on the wall even when it is ... to sacrifice the Malays to save his skin political.. There’s no denying that we are seeing a gradual and deliberate reconfiguration of the Malay power matrix in UMNO. while new one are still taking shape. The theory is that new elites will take back UMNO to its starting point, strengthen the association with nationalism and reaffirm its status of a symbol of national pride.Najib cooperation with the  grand Communist Leader in China  for his political expediency. There’s a dis-empowering of the Malays while at same time  the Malays are disowning Najib disowning.  But what is clear is that there is a disruption in UMNO’s power imagery and it’s not subtle. In fact, it’s rather brutal and unforgiving.
More than a phenomenon, the victory of Donald Trump is a message to all those who looked down on people like him, to Washington and its well-networked economy of powerits politics in disarray and Malay privilege questioned. The assault is also acquiring a pattern across countries — loosely labelled the ‘rise of the hard right’, but that still does not give the full story. with an unequivocal mandate to disrupt — if necessary, destroy — the the Malay’s power frame

Washington DC, PutraJaya and post-Brexit London are recent examples that stare in your face. But let’s not undermine the anti-corruption purge in Beijing. In a system as closed and authoritarian as China, Xi Jinping was the proverbial insider who capitalised on this feeling of resentment against the corrupt party elite. Shades of this anger have been visible even in Japan though not as pronounced as in louder democracies like Malaysia.

They are connected with cities in other countries as much as they are with their own. People living in them have a more global outlook, institutions here are connected across boundaries, they all seem networked into a global net that turns national political geography on its head.
Gradually, for many, umno now appears like one big club. With its own access rules, lobby groups, power hangouts and brokers.UMNO  is a good example. The nationalistic association was replaced with a feeling of alienation that generated its own anger and desire for takeover. Which is why many of these faces we see are those of unknown political entities, not certified by the old UMNO
These leaders connect with this deep anger against capital culture, which has come to symbolise corruption, privilege and manipulation. In the US election, Hillary Clinton was seen as someone who represented that privileged world. The same has come to be associated with Najib family — one of inherited privilege and benefit.a well-entrenched strategy conceived 60 years ago.
Instead of saying what he thinks his party wants to hear and perpetuating ethnocentric supremacy, he should say things that would teach them to think Malaysian rather than just Malay.Umno assemblies, not a budget speech, eve of Independence and others. This is a speech as Umno president,” he said. Why must the people understand? If he is aware that as Umno president he can say things that could be insulting to non-Malays, then something is dreadfully wrong with his party. And this is the party that is dominant in ruling the country. If he is aware of that, he should rectify what’s wrong with his party instead of allow it to continue to be parochially racial.Isn't his dilemma and candid admission reflect his state of mind? This confirms the allegedly conniving character of a person who can't and won't keep his words. In short, he has no principle/integrity.use the race and religion card freely when faced with different audience, when speaking on different stage, what stops him from perpetuating his grip on power with actually executing actions premised on such sensitivities when a dire situation arises.also read this Low Taek Jho,into money-laundering linked to 1MDB
